The above statement is very true, not only at this time of the year but year-round. I thought I would continue my thoughts from last week’s FFfT regarding being selfless.
When I first started networking, everyone I met with I would wonder: Why I was there? What can this person do for me? How can they help me? It was about me. (Marsha, Marsha, Marsha.) Over the years I have learned that the better question is what can I do for this person? How can I help them?
My personal experience is that by helping others we really do help ourselves. The amount of personal satisfaction I receive for helping someone in unmatched. Additionally, when others see that you are willing to help them, they are more apt to help you. One of our core values is Service. For me that word has two meanings: Providing outstanding service to partners and being of service to folks that I can help.
I hope in the holiday spirit of giving, you will help someone; be it a family member, a friend or a complete stranger. A great example was the toy drive Chelsea did—there was nothing in it for her. She did it out of the goodness of her heart.

About Friday Food for Thought (FFfT)
I frequently attend conferences and retreats on entrepreneurship and leadership and while I am away, the J2 team picks up the slack, allowing me to learn to be better at what I do. I wanted to share what I was learning with my team, so I created the weekly FFfT emails in November of 2015 and have been writing them ever since.
Before long, the J2 staff began sharing the FFfT emails with their friends and family and now other leaders have asked to be included, which led to the creation of this newsletter. I hope you enjoy!
