Legacy & Labor Day

Legacy & Labor Day

“I had an inheritance from my father, it was the moon and the sun. And though I roam all over the world, the spending of it’s never done.” —Ernest Hemingway, For Whom the Bell Tolls

For a lot of people, Labor Day means a few things: a day off, the end of summer, start of school, sales at malls, barbecues, or maybe even a parade.

Most people don’t realize why it’s called Labor Day. Labor Day is a day set aside to pay tribute to working men and women. It has been celebrated as a national holiday in the United States and Canada since 1894. In a way, we celebrate their legacy. We celebrate all they have done for the current work force, be it equal rights in the work place, fair wages, fair practices, etc.

As we get older many of us look at what legacy we will leave. What will be your mark on the world, you family, your friends, strangers? Here is a short article about creating your own legacy.

Max Lucado said “Outlive your life!” That is a very profound and powerful thought that will take a long time to fulfill. Let me alter it a bit; “Outlive your day.” Make the type of impact every day that people talk about the following day. Small impacts like that create a great legacy.

Have a great Labor Day weekend.

About Friday Food for Thought (FFfT)

I frequently attend conferences and retreats on entrepreneurship and leadership and while I am away, the J2 team picks up the slack, allowing me to learn to be better at what I do. I wanted to share what I was learning with my team, so I created the weekly FFfT emails in November of 2015 and have been writing them ever since.

Before long, the J2 staff began sharing the FFfT emails with their friends and family and now other leaders have asked to be included, which led to the creation of this newsletter. I hope you enjoy!
