“Success is nothing more than a few simple disciplines, practiced every day.” —Jim Rohn
Success comes in many different shapes and forms and means different things to different people. Success to one person might be failure to another, depending on your views and aspirations.
“Motivation is what gets you started. Habit is what keeps you going.” —Jim Ryun
Regardless of your goal, there are nine core skills that distinguish those who achieve their goals from those who don’t. Here are nine things successful folks tend to do on a daily basis to ensure success.
1. | Meditate/quiet time. We suffer from constant stress and information overload, which results in an inability to efficiently process new information in an effective manner. Among other benefits, meditation can help you channel your thoughts. |
2. | Find your core talent. When you find something you’re good at, hone in on it and develop that skill to its full potential. |
3. | Be gracious. Appreciate what you have. If you let yourself get distracted by what you don’t have, it will only slow you down from getting it. Practice an attitude of gratitude. |
4. | Be aware. Keep a journal of your daily thoughts. Being cognizant of your attitude and mindset will help you be more optimistic and enable you to achieve your goals. |
5. | Help others. If you can help other people accomplish their goals, they will help you accomplish yours. |
6. | Work out. Being successful is more than just a mental game. Successful people incorporate exercise into their daily routine because it promotes restful sleep, confidence, and overall physical and mental well-being. |
7. | Create routines and stick to them. Doing great things consistently over time is what creates success. Find routines that work for you and help you be productive and focused. Once you find things that work, stick to them. |
8. | Make good use of your time. Set a schedule every day with everything you want to accomplish, and have time slots next to each goal so that you can check off each task as you move on to the next one. |
9. | Believe in yourself. Above all else, you need to believe in yourself. Believing you can accomplish your goals is the single most important element of achieving your goals. Your ability to persevere and stay committed through any hardship is what can ultimately get you to where you want to be. |
You can see above where I need help. It is not easy but if we practice these everyday they become routine.

About Friday Food for Thought (FFfT)
I frequently attend conferences and retreats on entrepreneurship and leadership and while I am away, the J2 team picks up the slack, allowing me to learn to be better at what I do. I wanted to share what I was learning with my team, so I created the weekly FFfT emails in November of 2015 and have been writing them ever since.
Before long, the J2 staff began sharing the FFfT emails with their friends and family and now other leaders have asked to be included, which led to the creation of this newsletter. I hope you enjoy!
