PULSE December 2019

Welcome to the PULSE!

It’s December again and the holidays are just around the corner. At this time of year, many of us find ourselves reflecting on the last 12 months and thinking of ways to make the upcoming year even better. J2 has had another successful year; we grew as a company, gained new relationships and had fun doing so! We can attribute part of our success to a couple of factors: communication and knowing who we are and what we want.

Camera lens focusLeadership was a big focus of ours this year. As 2019 began, we wrote about the importance of soft skills, a skillset which is vital in a well-rounded leader and imperative in promoting employee retention.  Rounding out our year of leadership, this quarter coaching and mentoring have captured our attention. Part of what makes a great mentor is their ability to communicate that the person receiving guidance has the potential to achieve what they set out to do.

Along the same lines, David made a case for mentoring all employees as future leaders in his article, 21st Century Leadership- The Crucial Component. According to John Maxwell in The 21 Irrefutable Laws of Leadership, the effectiveness of an employee, regardless of their position, is directly affected by their leadership ability.

Before we can effectively mentor others, we need to have a good handle on who we are, and what we want and need. Self-care is an important part of being effective as a leader, entrepreneur, student, whatever role we currently fill. We all need to recharge, spend some time really reflecting on our purpose in life and be deliberate in how we present ourselves to others.

Speaking of how we present ourselves to the world, Vijay shared why hiring during the holidays can be a gift to the hiring company as well as the candidate chosen to fill the vacant role. Applicants who are serious about the job they want will not take a break over the holidays, and companies that have positions to fill this time of year will find the most motivated job seekers. It’s a win-win for those who prioritize what they want and need and if you’re in the market for a fresh start in 2020, be sure to check out our open positions on our Careers Page!

We wish each of you a peaceful end of this year and a new year ripe with potential. Be sure to take care of yourself, and spend time with those who mean something to you as often as you can.
